When should I inform my / my chimney sweep about the new chimney?

The responsible chimney sweep should be informed as soon as possible about the planned project so that any discrepancies can be clarified in advance.

If this is not possible, the responsible chimney sweep must be informed latest before the first start-up, since he / she must certify the suitability and safe usability of the fireplace and the exhaust system.

Do I need to have the chimney sweep before first use?

Yes. According to the building regulations of the individual federal states, the suitability and safe usability of the complete exhaust system must be certified by the competent district chimney sweep before the first commissioning of a fireplace. In other words, the approval procedure is carried out.

If defects in the installation or changes have been found, these must generally be rectified no later than six weeks, otherwise the responsible chimney sweep is entitled to forward this information to the lower building supervisory authority (District office, City council). Fines of considerable amount can result.

Which documents does my chimney sweep need for giving the approval?

The chimney sweep needs the following technical documentation to give the approval:

- Specification plate of the fireplace
- Declaration of performance of the connection piece (if available / obtainable)
- Declaration of performance and specification plate of the chimney / flue pipe (enclosed with new installation)
- Combustion calculation (cross-section calculation) of the exhaust system
