Sooting

Sooting is the penetration of the mantle by liquid (i.e. condensate). The condensation of the exhaust gases in the flue pipe attacks the mantle. The acids and tar cause yellow-brown spots on the brickwork. In worst case, these spills cause unpleasant odours in the living area. The risk of sooting exists mainly in older brick chimneys, whose cross section is usually designed to be too large and therefore condensation occurs.

To prevent the problem of sooting or decay, a chimney renovation is advisable.
