Draft regulators serve to compensate for low pressure occurrences in exhaust systems.

The sheet metal housing mounted in the brick chimney or in the exhaust system is movable on one side. This movable flap can be controlled mechanically or with a motor. In case of too much negative pressure, i.e. a high fuel consumption, the draft regulator opens the movable flap and allows secondary air to flow in, hence also called secondary air device.

Only when the optimum pressure is reached does the flap close again. This optimum value is set in advance and serves as the default value. Larger chimney means the draft regulator opens further and accordingly more air flows in.

With draft regulators you save on average about 4% of fuel. In case of too little negative pressure, a chimney elevation is necessary to increase the draft.
