Insulation

For double wall flue gas systems as well as for chimney renovations, mineral insulation is used to prevent excessive cooling of the flue gases flowing through. This ensures that the condensation of the contained water vapour is largely avoided and the chimney effect or the discharge of the exhaust gases can continue to take place. Usually insulation shells with a thickness of approx. 20-30 mm are used for this purpose. Depending on the system and manufacturer, versions with up to 100 mm are available. The insulation of the stainless steel chimney also has the advantage of keeping the distance to flammable components smaller. The corresponding distances per system are specified in the respective declarations of performance (DoP). In the case of lightweight chimneys, insulation of the inner pipe may be necessary for certain applications, in order to influence the fire resistance of the shaft.
